What is Vaping and How is it Affecting Our Teens?

Here we will talk about what vaping is, comparisons to other smoking habits and how it affects users.

×

1 / 1

Have you heard of vaping before? If you have young teens in your house, the answer is most likely yes. Since the middle of 2018, vaping has rapidly shot up in popularity when the Juul, a vaping device, came out. Unfortunately, many people believe this form of smoking does little to no harm and is a healthier alternative to smoking, but they are mistaken. Here we will talk about what vaping is, comparisons to other smoking habits and how it affects users.

All About Vaping

Vaping is to inhale vapor created from heating a liquid up in a small device. The vaping devices rely on battery power and are fueled by a variety of forms of liquid, often including nicotine or other chemicals creating a highly addictive formula. Not only is this product highly addictive, but also extremely dangerous. Vaping itself has been around for years but has boomed in popularity in the last few years. There are many unknown factors when it comes to vaping due to the various vape devices, solutions that go in them and how they work.

Smoking vs Vaping

Over 1 BILLION people smoke in the world. If you are one of those people, you have most likely thought of shaking your bad habit and maybe even have thought of making the switch to vaping instead. There are many things we are unsure of when it comes to vaping, but here are a few things we do know. Both vaping and smoking are bad for your health. Period. Their main ingredient, nicotine, is highly addictive and even has been compared to being as addictive as heroin and cocaine. This is what the world’s teenagers are doing and most of them are unaware of how serious and dangerous vaping really is. This is not a healthy alternative, but rather a possibly less harmful option to some people. But since we don’t know the long term effects, this could also be a more harmful replacement of smoking.

Vaping Effects

The effects of vaping are extensive, especially in teenagers and young adults. The amount of nicotine in some of the vaping devices themselves are easily compared to, if not more, than a pack of cigarettes. A young adult’s mind is even more susceptible to the effects of vaping since their brain is still developing. This causes issues in brain development.

Many other ingredients that are found in the ‘juice’ that goes in the vape also include detrimental ingredients that can harm your lungs, skin, eyes and more. A lot of these ingredients may even be okay to eat but not to inhale into your lungs due to the long term effects. Some vaping devices have even caused an explosion or fire when using them which have resulted in serious injuries to the face and body.

Even after all of this, the most dangerous part of these e-cigarettes and vaping devices are the unknowns of the risks. Scientists are still learning about them, research is still being done and new findings are in the making every day. If you or someone you love uses one of these devices, make them aware of the possible consequences because you never know what might just happen with these threatening devices. If you have been a long time smoker or vaper who is now facing respiratory issues, see your doctor to get referred for a consultation today.
