Equipment replacement
Replacing your mask and accessories as needed helps to ensure that you are getting the best, most effective and comfortable therapy possible. While often times this is determined by your insurance company, it is important to keep up on how long you have had your equipment and the shape of all pieces.
Items you may need to replace overtime include:
- Mask
- Headgear
- Chinstrap
- Tubing
- Filters
- Water chambers
- The device itself
The item that needs to be replaced most often is the mask cushion or mask pillows. This is the part of the mask that touches your face. It is recommended to replace these up to two times a month or as needed. The mask itself should be replaced every 3 months. Many of the other pieces such as the tubing and gear should be replaced every 6 months. The device itself should be replaced every 5 years, but some insurance companies will cover a new one sooner. When thinking of replacing any piece of your CPAP, check with your insurance company and your provider to see what the machine or product you have recommends.
