We’ve all had that feeling. You feel a tickle in your throat, or you notice that you have a fever. Do you have a cold? Is it the flu? Or do you have COVID-19? There are times when it is beneficial to have a COVID test, and other times when it’s probably not worth the expense. Advanced Respiratory Care is here to help determine when the right time is to get a COVID test.
Know the Severity of Your Symptoms
Many cases of COVID-19 are minor, producing only minor symptoms. If your symptoms are only making you mildly uncomfortable, you likely don’t need to get a COVID test. These symptoms can include:
- Fever and/or chills
- Sore throat
- Runny nose
- Diarrhea
- Loss of taste and/or smell
- Fatigue
- Nausea
If your symptoms progress and you start to notice you’re having difficulty breathing, please seek medical attention. You likely will be tested for COVID at any medical facility when you tell them your symptoms.
COVID Testing Before Traveling
Many countries and airlines require a negative COVID test before traveling. If you’re required to take a test to be eligible for travel, you’ll need to find a test site. Even if you’re only traveling locally, you may want to consider getting tested to avoid the possibility of unknowingly passing on COVID to a loved one.
Other Times You Need to Be Tested for COVID
It’s important to know how your personal health history can be impacted by COVID. If you have any pre-existing conditions that would be exacerbated by COVID, you should get tested if you are experiencing any symptoms. Please consult with your doctor to determine if anything in your medical history would be made worse by COVID.
