Are you looking for more natural ways to control your allergies this season? You’ve come to the right place! The Advanced Respiratory Care Network is always working to help individuals breathe easier to enjoy all the beautiful moments life has to offer. Take a look at homeopathic ways to keep allergens down in your home.
Clean, clean, clean!
It’s impossible to avoid letting allergens into your home, but the more you clean the more you can get rid of them! It’s important to clean your bed sheets, clothes, carpets and curtains in your home more often during the springtime, because those fabrics easily trap allergens. Many people with mild allergies can avoid taking allergy medicine while at home simply by keeping the house clean. Don’t forget to keep your windows closed, too! Otherwise, it will be impossible to keep the house clean from those pesky allergies.
Eat a Healthy Diet
While medical professionals aren’t exactly sure why eating a healthy diet is linked to decreased allergy symptoms, there is a positive correlation nonetheless! This also falls in line with the overall benefits of eating a healthy diet. The better you eat, the better you feel! Start by adding fresh vegetables, fruits, and nuts (especially grapes, apples, oranges, and tomatoes) to your diet to see how you feel.
Use a Nasal Rinse
While this isn’t the most pleasant practice, clearing your nasal passages is a sure way to get rid of any allergens trapped in the mucus inside your nose. You can buy a kit or use a nasal bulb for an easy way to rinse your nose out. For a homemade nasal rinse solution, use this recipe: mix 3 tsp of iodide-free salt with 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Then, add 1 teaspoon of the mixture into 8 ounces of distilled or boiled/then cooled water. We recommend leaning over the sink and gently rinsing out those nasal passages for an easy clean-up!
Drink Lots of Water
Increasing your liquid intake can thin the mucus in your nasal cavity and help relieve your allergy symptoms! You can also drink warm liquids, like tea, for the added benefit of steam.
Use a Steam Pot
Speaking of steam... taking a warm shower or holding your head over a warm bowl of water are great ways to relieve allergy symptoms. The hot steam helps break down mucus that clogs up your nasal passages which helps get rid of allergens trapped in the mucus and allows you to breathe better!
Stay Away from Harsh Chemicals
Harsh cleaning chemicals often aggravate allergy symptoms. From the intense scents to the unnecessarily harsh chemicals of store-bought cleaning supplies, it’s often better to use more natural cleaning agents. Try natural cleaning mixtures with vinegar or baking soda instead!
